Paris Mon Amour

Day One of Three in the City of Love

It’s a difficult thing not to give your heart up to the many romantic and enchanting elements of Paris. Between everything this beautiful treasure trove of art, history and fashion has to offer, France’s culture capital is certainly a must-see for all aesthetically and artistically enthused explorers of the world. From its never-ending grands boulevards to its labyrinths of ancient, winding medieval streets, this awe-inspiring epicentre of romance and haute-cuisine is undoubtably the perfect city for feeding the imagination.

This week I had the pleasure of spending three of the most fun-filled days of my life in one of the world’s most beautiful and picturesque cities and today I am just so excited to share my adventure with you.

Exploring the City

Our first stop was Place de la Concorde, a vast square in the very heart of the city which already showed off so much of the incredible beauty that Paris has to offer. Really, it’s like the entire world suddenly turns into an old Audrey Hepburn movie the very minute you ascend the steps of the metro. (Bonjour Paris!)

Right on the square stood an enormous ferris wheel which offered a spectacular 360 view of the city when it reached its peak. Off in the far distance and nestled among some fluffy green trees, the top of the Eiffel Tower was visible over the Seine. To the left and beyond elaborate steal gates, sat the blossoming Jardin des Tuileries which would lead us right to the Louvre and Palais-Royal. And not too far away were the Champs Elysées.

With so many places just a short walk away, it was so hard to know which way to turn!

Because the current of my love for all things fashion and haute-couture runs so deep, the Parisian adventure of course had to begin with a stroll down the Champs Elysées. Between the champagne-coloured buildings, the elegant architecture of the stores, and the spectacular sparkling shoes and couture clothes on display in every shop window, taking a walk down this (incredibly long) street was definitely worth it for the vogue experience it offers.

We don’t have individual designer boutiques in Ireland like they do in Paris. Everywhere you looked in the heart of the city, there was a new haute-couture haven to swoon over.

Le Pont des Arts

Next, we took a walk over to ‘Le Pont des Arts‘ which is famously known for its romantic view of the Eiffel Tower. This is also the bridge where couples can attach a lock to the railing as a symbol of their everlasting love. It’s a really sweet experience to stand on the wooden platform and to think of each of the different couples from the various corners of the world who have all passed over this bridge before you. Everyone has their own love story to tell and this bridge renders that usually unseen truth into something just so beautifully tangible. With the stories of hundreds of couples forever attached to one railing on a bridge, how could you not be in love with Paris already?

Le Musée d’Orsay

I couldn’t wait to visit the Musée d’Orsay. This palace of impressionist art is certainly one of the most inspiring and entrancing of museums one can visit and definitely the perfect place for a wandering artistic spirit to find herself lost in.  Whether you are familiar with the ins and outs of the schools of each of the impressionist painters and their work, or you’re simply just a happy visitor passing through to admire the pretty pastel pink paintings of Claude Monet, the surreal universe of Van Gogh, or just there to gaze longingly at the most enviable pieces of elaborate antique furniture taken from the most pivotal moments in French art history, the Musée d’Orsay is sure to have something that will blow your mind in one way or another.

Montmartre

Finally, we put an end to the day by visiting the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and dining in Montmartre -the area that instantly became my absolute favourite in the city. A neighbourhood once home to some of the world’s most acclaimed cultural legends such as Earnest Hemingway, F. Scott FitzGerald and Pablo Picasso to name a few, Montmartre certainly embodies a powerfully artistic aura which can easily be seen living in the streets. With such a creative charm roaring with life in the various paintbrushes of the artists who inhabit the area, the accordions and violins serenading you to La Vie en Rose over extravagant meals and candle-lit dinners, Montmartre perfectly captures the ‘romance movie’ element of Paris. And it is always going to be this kind of atmosphere of the city that a hopeless romantic such as myself will remember for the rest of her days. ❤

The place we dined in. But honestly, each and every oneof the restaurants in Montmartre was better than the last!

So this was everything I did on my first day in Paris. I’m sorry if this post went on for too long, I just got so excited when I started to think back on each of the minute details of the city. It was just so beautiful.

Don’t forget to tune into tomorrow’s post so you can join back in the Parisian adventure for day two! But until then…
