Velvet Touch

A Vintage Inspired OOTD

When it comes to winter fabrics that radiate luxury there can be no doubt that velvet trumps all when it comes to capturing our hearts during the colder months. If you’ve been on our blog for a while now you’ll know that my long standing love affair with with this ever-elegant fabric has been eternally intense, especially now that the holidays are here and the harsh December weather is in full swing here in Paris. This outfit of the day is all about adding a little colour to the dull winter days.

Fashion in Paris is largely about chicness, flattering silhouettes are paramount, neutral colour palettes dominate the  streets and black is every woman’s best friend. Although usually I can be spotted in the typical Parisian uniform of darker and more plain, classy colour schemes, today I wanted to opt for an outfit that was a little bolder. If there’s any one thing that’s important in choosing an outfit to brighten your mood, it’s to never be afraid of a bold print to lift your spirits.

When I saw this dress in Topshop, I instantly fell in love with its kaleidoscopic vintage vibe. Not only does it evoke so many nostalgic images in my mind of my grand-mother’s wallpaper in our country house in Ireland, there is also something so enriching about the warmth in the colours.

Florals will always be a closet essential of mine, particularly in the winter when the days are at their darkest. This time of year, there’s really no better way of adding some cheer to an outfit for a daytime look.

And that’s it for today’s look. I realize it’s been a while since I last posted an outfit so I thought I’d show you guys this dress because I have really been obsessed with it lately. If you guys like the dress too you can find it on the TopShop website here.
