Flashback to Paris

Here I am at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, the headquarters to one of the world’s most iconic fashion houses since it was first established in 1946 and one of the most inspiring places in Paris when it comes to absorbing the enchantment of the city and its mark on the development of fashion, femininity and haute-couture.

Not so long ago I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting Le Musée des Arts Decoratifs just right next to the Louvre in Paris to explore the magical world of Dior dating right back from the early designs of Christian Dior himself and through the beginnings of Hollywood glamour in the 1940’s and 50’s to present day. The exhibition also had so much to offer on the powerful influence following the debut of Yves Saint Laurent into the couture world as well as an exhibit on the more modern elegance of Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the label’s present creative director.

In today’s post I thought I would take you through the world of Dior with me and show you some photos of just some of the most stunning dresses through the years.

Seeing each of the dresses up close and the wild attention to detail that went into crafting each and every seam, every stitch on every piece of embroidery and every single bead embellishing each garment really made me appreciate the sheer mastery that is the art of fashion design. Each one of the gowns on display was more beautiful than the last and every silhouette was just so dainty, feminine and elegant, even on the half-finished pieces which you can see below.

They were also playing some videos of footage of shows and iconic pieces made throughout the history of the brand. This was a part of the show that I really loved because you could easily see the movement in the outfits and the different ways the various fabrics fall on the body. Honestly if I ever had the opportunity to own a Dior dress I would be the happiest woman alive. There is just something so mystifying about these looks, especially in the more glamorous Hollywood styles and vintage images.

What really amazed me about this is that even with all the change the brand has gone through since it was founded, the graceful cuts and elegant shapes of each dress made by Dior has stayed the same. Going to see the display in the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris was such a beautiful experience and if you are going to be in the city before the 7th of January when the show terminates then I would 100% recommend paying it a visit. In the way of fashion, nothing has inspired me so much in a long, long time.
