The Perfect Weekend In Orléans

A mini-travel guide to Orléans

Last weekend myself and my friend Lyne decided to go on a little girly getaway for a few days. We didn’t want to spend too much time travelling because we were rather limited for time so when we saw that Orléans was just a two hour drive away from Paris, we packed our bags and booked a hotel for the weekend.

In today’s post I’m sharing some of my favourite things to do in Orléans with you guys as well as the photos from my trip.

The first thing that made me fall in love with the city was the location of our hotel, which was at the top of the main street of Orléans and facing out onto the Rue de la République. Our window had the most amazing view over the main shopping street of the city and being able to look out at the stunning architecture was seriously so beautiful. I couldn’t stop taking photos!

Because we went in the off season the hotel was incredibly cheap for the two of us. We only paid €25 each for the night. I have to say that even though we weren’t the luckiest with the weather, it didn’t really bother us too much because we had such a luxurious stay in our room. I even linked the same hotel above. The price will of course change depending on the season but it was such a great hotel for the money that I couldn’t help but link it above.

One of the main attractions in Orléans is of course the 19th century gothic style Cathedral so we spent a lot of time wandering around and of course snapping photos. The inside had some really beautiful stain glass windows and reminded me a lot of Notre-Dame in Paris.  As you guys can see, every single street around the cathedral was just so picturesque and the old architecture of the city really created such a charming atmosphere all around.

This is the also city that Joan of Arc is from so there is so much culture to be found just by exploring the streets. You can also visit her house somewhere in the city too but unfortunately I didn’t manage to snap a photo. When my vlog comes out this week you guys should see if you can spot it!

The architecture in the city was really beautiful because there is a large variation of timber houses that date back to the style of the middle ages, ornate palaces from the Renaissance as well as sandstone houses reminiscent of the typical Parisian style. Every sight on every street was just so picturesque. In the photo above, I’m walking down the steps of the Hôtel Grosglot which was a beautiful old palace that dated back to the Renaissance. We had a lot of fun exploring the inside of it which I can’t wait for you guys to see in the video!

I was sad I didn’t get a good enough photo of this beautiful vintage store we went into called Loup’Ange. The entire store seemed to embody the retro vibe of the city through its stunning collection of fur coats, leather handbags, swing dresses, court shoes and even formal attire. You can see in the background of the photo that Lyne and I took that even the decor on the interior made you feel like stepping into another world. It really was such a treasure-trove and I was amazed to find some traditional Irish aran jumpers in it!

Musée des Beaux Arts

Go Shopping on the Rue de la République
