We All Know The Film, Now It’s Time For An Outfit of the Day!
What is it that makes Montmartre so charming?
Though it may have a rather sordid past, the architectural beauty of Paris’ former red light district is undeniable.
Pigalle is an area in Paris where pretty much anything goes. Located right in the middle of the hill at Montmartre, this quartier was once the playground of artists and musicians alike all throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of the biggest names in western art and culture such as Picasso, Renoir, Ernest Hemingway and Van Gogh frequented the many local cafés there including La Nouvelle Athènes and the world renowned Le Chat Noir. It was the district where Rimbaud frequented with his lover Paul Verlaine, where Edith Paif sang and of course where brothels and cabarets were commonplace.
Out of all the culture that exists across the area of Pigalle, The Moulin Rouge is the most show-stopping monument of all. With it being the birthplace of cabaret and the epicentre of burlesque, I just had to stop by last time I was strolling around Montmartre.
Honestly there is so much history, art and culture brimming in the city centre of Paris and walking around and getting to experience that is always so amazing. I didn’t actually get to go inside the Moulin Rouge and see a show because taking photos of the girls is strictly prohibited but honestly just being able to pass by it and admire the vibrant red facade and the neon lights was enough for me to fall so in love with the area.
What I love about Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge is that while it represents the rough around the edges part of Paris, it still retains so much of the city’s charm. The side streets that lead to and from the Sacré-Coeur, especially as you move closer towards Abbesses showcase the creativity of the area as well as so many old streets and old buildings. There’s also a lot of 19th century neo-classical mansions in the area that I could only dream to live in one day, not to mention a myriad of fancy 5 star hotels. (A notorious one being the Très Particulier which is a hidden hotel frequented by in-the-know Parisians and sheltered by a series of gates and code-protected doors.)
The whole area of Montmartre is as enchanting as it is rich and there is so much to see. Pigalle itself may be a place for the more daring and travel-savvy individuals I’m not going to lie but if you go during the day there is a lot to see and lot to admire, especially at the Moulin Rouge.
For today’s outfit I wore my new favourite top from Bershka. I just love the design on it and how it has Blossom from the Powerpuff Girls embroidered on the front. When I was younger this was my favourite cartoon and I always thought the characters were so cute.
As for bottoms I’m wearing my favourite faux leather skirt from TopShop. This is a piece that I love to wear all over the city because the metallic detailing on it is so stylish and it fits so smoothly around my curves.
If you’ve been on our blog for a while now you guys would know that I love a red lip and what better place to rock this red liquid lippy other than at the Moulin Rouge itself?
This lipstick actually comes from my own beauty range which you can get your hands on by sending me a DM over on Instagram. If you want a liquid lipstick full of essential nutrients like Vitamin E, Avocado and Beeswax then I would definitely recommend this because the colour is so long-lasting and the formula is so nourishing.
So that’s it for today’s post! I really hope you guys enjoyed. Have you ever been to the Moulin Rouge or to Montmartre? I would love to hear all about it in the comments below!
That’s all from me for now. If you could check out my beauty range over on Instagram too it would really mean the world to me.
